Summary: Collection consists of materials on the life and work of Alexander Girard; the construction of the Girard Wing of the Museum of International Folk Art; and the curation and exhibition of the Girard collection. Alexander Girard (1907-1993) was an architect, designer, and collector of folk art who donated his collection to the Museum of New Mexico and designed and supervised the installation of the Girard Wing's permanent exhibition "Multiple Visions: A Common Bond". Coordinator of the exhibition was Charlene Cerny. Curators were Mary Jane Schumacher, Carol Steiro, Judy Chiba-Cohen, and Christine Mather. Photographers were Mark Schwartz, Art Taylor, and Jean Puleston Fleming. Collection includes biographical sketches, a taped interview, photographs, slides, transparencies, negatives, gallery guides and other publications, and construction plans and documents. The majority of the slides, negatives and transparencies are of the objects in the Girard collection and of the installation of the collection in the museum.
